These are the best 12-inch miter saws on the market today:

1. Bosch Profactor 18V Surgeon

Our issues with the Bosch Profactor 12-inch miter saw are minor. Overall, this is a great machine and we love the cordless freedom. It makes nice clean cuts every time and it comes with everything you need to get started right out of the box. The dust collection isn’t 100%, but that’s true of most of its competitors as well.

There are always one or two products that rise above the rest in any product category and when it comes to 12-inch miter saws the Bosch Surgeon 12-inch miter saw fits firmly in that category. It is a little pricey at well over $500, but it’s also packed full of features.

For a start it’s lightweight and cordless giving you the freedom to take it wherever you need. It has an articulating arm for wider crosscuts, it’s a dual bevel machine, clamp and wrench are included and it comes with a dust bag.

There isn’t much to dislike about this saw other than the hefty price tag. It doesn’t collect all the dust, although it does better than most at this task. Also, the lens for the laser shadow line system does not have any protective cover, so pieces of debris flying off the saw can damage it over time.

  • Cordless and mobile.
  • Articulating arm for crosscuts.
  • Dual bevel technology.
  • Clamp, wrench, and dust bag included.
  • Hefty price tag.
  • No protective cover for laser.

2. Dewalt DWS715

If you’re searching for the top-of-the-line miter saw with every feature possible, this Dewalt saw is not your best choice. Having said that it’s still a great purchase for someone looking for their first miter saw, or for the occasional user.

The Dewalt 12-inch 15-amp single-bevel miter saw is an affordable option if you need a miter saw that won’t break the bank. It retails for under $300 and has all of the major features you need.

It uses a stainless steel miter, it has 14 preset stops and it bevels between 0 and 48 degrees. The saw is also capable of handling 2-inch x 8-inch dimensional lumber crosscut capacity.

You’ll also find that this product is fairly lightweight as well at just over 40 pounds. A dust bag, wrench and clamp are also included.

One of the biggest drawbacks of this machine is that it’s only a single-bevel which will limit what you can do. Also, a laser is not included at purchase which leaves you relying on your own eye for accuracy.

We should also mention that it uses a 32-tooth saw blade which leaves your cuts a little rough around the edges.

  • Priced under $300.
  • Stainless steel with 14 preset stops.
  • Good crosscut capacity.
  • Lightweight under 40 pounds.
  • Dust bag, wrench, and clamp included.
  • Only single-bevel.
  • No laser in box.

3. Metabo HPT C12RSH2S

For a relatively inexpensive machine the Metabo HPT 12″ has some impressive features. We were pleased with the power and we liked the fact the cuts are nice and fine using an 80-tooth blade. The build quality isn’t top of the line though, so you’ll probably appreciate the fact it comes with a 5-year warranty within a couple of years of purchase.

If we had to pick a 12-inch miter saw that offers the best value for the money, the Metabo HPT 12-inch sliding compound miter saw would have to rate as a strong contender for the title.

You get a lot right out of the box with this machine. Not only is it a sliding compound miter saw, it’s also a powerful one operating at 5500 rpm’s. It also uses an 80 tooth carbide blade which will give you nice clean cuts every time.

On top of these great features, Metabo backs it all up with an impressive 5-year warranty.

One issue we did find with this machine is that you may develop a little play in the cutting head over time which can affect the straightness of your cut – an adjustment may be necessary from time to time.

The build quality of this machine is also little more than average, so it’s a good thing that it comes with a 5-year warranty.

  • Good value for money.
  • Sliding compound miter.
  • Operates at 5500 rpm.
  • Uses an 80-tooth carbide blade.
  • 5-year warranty.
  • Cutting head may develop play.
  • Cheaper build quality.

4. Wen MM1214

The Wen MM1214 isn’t the most powerful 12-inch miter saw on the market, but it’s a competent machine for one that’s priced well under $300. It has all of the features you’ll find in more expensive models and you should get a good couple of years of use out of it – more if you’re careful.

Our pick for the best budget 12-inch dual bevel sliding compound miter saw of 2024 is the Wen MM1214. This is a great bargain for a machine priced under $300. It has a powerful 15-amp motor and it cuts boards that are up to 3 1/2 inches thick.

The bevel can be adjusted up to 45 degrees in either direction and there are 9 miter stops to choose from. You also get a laser guided shadow line with this saw for more accurate cuts. It ships with table extensions, clamps and a dust bag.

Our biggest disappointment with this saw is that the manufacturer only provides you with a 2-year warranty which is below the industry average of 3-years. That is a concern when you consider much of the casing is made up of cheaper plastic that does tend to wear.

You may also find the locking screw knob feels a little cheaply made.

  • Priced under $300.
  • 15-amp motor.
  • Adjust bevel either direction up to 45 degrees.
  • Laser guided cuts.
  • Table extensions, clamp, and dust bag.
  • Only ships with 2-year warranty.
  • Casing largely plastic.

5. JCB 12″ 120V

There’s a lot to like about this JCB Tools 12-inch saw. It has great cutting power and it uses a 60-tooth blade so the cuts are fairly fine. We did have issues with the sliding arm lock and they do need to improve it’s dust collection system, but overall this is a good option if you’re in the market for a 12-inch miter saw.

If you’re not too concerned with price, the JCB 12-inch double-bevel 120V miter saw is a great option. It operates at 5000 rpm for strong cutting capacity using a 60-tooth carbide blade. It’s a dual-bevel machine which gives you tons of versatility with 11 preset miter stops for ease of use.

You can also tilt the blade head at a range of angles for various different cuts. This is a laser guided saw and a workpiece clamp is included to hold your wood in place while you work.

There are a couple of areas where we think JCB could improve this saw. First, the lock that you use to hold the sliding arm will work its way loose if you don’t tighten it carefully and you’ll likely have to make frequent adjustments as you cut.

Also, while they do include a dust bag it doesn’t do a very good job of collecting dust.

  • Operates at 5000 rpm.
  • Uses 60-tooth carbide blade.
  • Dual bevel with 11 presets.
  • Laser guided.
  • Workpiece clamp included.
  • A little pricey.
  • Sliding arm lock can loosen.
  • Dust bag doesn’t work well.

Conclusion

It’s never easy to pick one product that rises above the competition in any category and that’s true in the 12-inch miter saw category as well.

There are tons of great options out there in 2024, but we settled on the Bosch Profactor 18V Surgeon, because it’s packed full of features and because we love the cordless freedom that it provides. If you prefer something corded, any one of the 12-inch miter saws we’ve reviewed here will do a great job for you.

There’s never been a better time to be in the market for a 12-inch miter saw with so much choice available.
