1. Lincoln Electric LE31MP

The best all-around TIG welder of 2024

We didn’t find a lot wrong with the Lincoln Electric LE31MP – it’s a great little machine. With 140 amps you get more than enough power to get the job done and the comprehensive 3-year warranty is one of the best in the industry. It would be better if it worked with aluminum welds, but overall, this is a great machine for the price.

We chose the Lincoln Electric LE31MP as the best all-around TIG welder because it’s packed full of great features at a reasonable price that won’t break the bank. Priced just under $800, it will fit most budgets without having to compromise on functionality. It represents the best value for money on the market today.

With 140 amps coursing through this machine when it’s in operation it has more than enough power to provide a reliable weld. The LE31MP also stands out because of its durable construction and in case there were any doubts, Lincoln backs this up with a 3-year warranty. It’s also equipped with a dual-track drive roll that ensures a smooth wire feeding process. At just 15.5 inches high and 16 inches wide it’s nice and compact for easy storage.

On the negative side, you can’t TIG aluminum with this machine it only works with stainless steel. It also takes a few passes to complete a weld which can be a bit frustrating. One other thing that we didn’t like were the assembly instructions – they could be clearer.

  • Great power with 140 amps.
  • Durable construction.
  • 3-year warranty.
  • Compact design for easy storage.
  • Not compatible with aluminum TIG welding.
  • Confusing assembly instructions.

2. Amico TIG-205HF

The best budget TIG welder

For a budget welder that retails for under $300, the Amico TIG-205HF has a lot going for it. We were impressed with the 205 amps of power and we like the fact that it doubles as a Stick welder. The warranty is a bit underwhelming which made us doubt its overall quality, but it’s hard to ignore the great price and it has a stable arc that produces great welds. If you don’t want to spend a lot, this will get the job done.

For anyone that thinks you have to spend a fortune for a quality TIG welder, we have a pleasant surprise – the Amico TIG-205HF. This impressive welder retails for under $300, but the manufacturer hasn’t sacrificed quality to achieve that great price. This machine is powerful enough to be used in a commercial setting and it’s great for home use as well.

We were surprised to discover that this budget welder draws on 205 amps of power – that outstrips many more expensive competitors. It also has built-in inverter technology that creates a reliable and stable arc – the end result is a perfect weld just about every time. This machine comes with extra tips, solder and a torch and it also doubles as a Stick welder which is a nice bonus.

We were less than impressed with the warranty on this product though. The manufacturer offers only a 1-year factory warranty, which did leave us questioning its durability. This machine also lacks the capability to be used with a foot control and that can make it a bit more tricky to operate in some circumstances.

  • 205-amp power output.
  • Built-in inverter for a stable arc.
  • Extra tips, solder and torch.
  • Doubles as a Stick welder.
  • Only includes a 1-year warranty.
  • Not compatible with foot controls.

3. Everlast PowerArc 160STH

The best TIG welder for around $500

For a product that retails for under/around $500, the Everlast PowerArc 160STH is a great deal. Our complaints with this product are minimum, but it is a bit disappointing you can’t use it for welding aluminum. We love its versatility though and the 5-year warranty is virtually unheard of in the welding industry so that’s a big positive. It’s always nice to see a manufacturer that’s willing to stand behind the quality of their products.

If you have a budget of around $500 for your next TIG welder we suggest going with the Everlast 160STH. This great little machine is priced right and it’s a quality product with the features you’re looking for. It’s perfect for any garage or shop where some daily welding tasks are the norm.

This Everlast welder draws on 160 amps of power, which doesn’t place it at the top of the heap, but it’s still more than enough amperage for most daily welding projects. Versatility is always a good thing and with the ability to use this machine as both a TIG welder and a Stick welder it certainly qualifies as a versatile product. It’s capable of welding a number of common metals such as stainless steel, standard steel and nickel.

On top of all that it provides high-frequency starts and an automatic gas solenoid that produces great welds every time. All of this and a 5-year warranty as well!

Unfortunately, this welder won’t work with aluminum, which is a bit limiting. There can also be some leakage from the hose reducing its efficiency, but this isn’t something that most customers experience when using this machine.

  • 160 amps of power.
  • TIG and Stick welder.
  • High frequency starts.
  • 5-year warranty.
  • Doesn’t work with aluminum.
  • Some hose leakage.

4. AHP AlphaTIG 203Xi

The best dual mode TIG/Stick welder

Overall, any concerns we had with the functionality of the AHP AlphaTIG 203Xi were minimum. This is a great machine for almost all conditions. The fact that it works on both steel and aluminum is a great feature that gives it an industry edge. We highly recommend this welder.

If you’re in the market for a dual-mode TIG welder you can’t go wrong with the AlphaTIG 203Xi. This is a powerful machine with all of the features you need for accurate and stable welds every time. With this welder in your shop, you’ll have a reliable option for all of your weld jobs for years to come.

This is a durable machine designed to take a lot of punishment and keep on going. All of the instruments are protected by a plastic shield that prevents dust and dirt from affecting their reliability. When it’s time to start the next welding project this tool provides 200 amps of reliable power. Unlike some of its competitors, it’s also able to provide stable welds of aluminum as well as steel making it highly versatile. The 203Xi can be converted for use as a Stick welder as well. All of these features are backed by a 3-year warranty.

At around $800 it is a bit pricey. It’s also not capable of lighting a 6010 electrode rod, which is somewhat disappointing. One other thing to keep in mind is that you have to set the AC balance to a minimum to avoid burning through tungsten too quickly.

  • Instruments protected by plastic shield.
  • 200 amps of reliable power.
  • Works with aluminum.
  • Dual-mode TIG and Stick welder.
  • A bit pricey at $800.
  • AC balance has to be turned right down to avoid waste.

5. Forney 220 (420)

The best TIG welder under $1500

The Forney 220 is easily one of our favorite welding products. It comes with tons of bells and whistles and its a powerful machine capable of operating at 220 amps. It isn’t cheap at almost $1500, but it packs a lot of punch for the price. If you’re not worried about your budget this is a great option for any weld shop.

If budget isn’t a major concern then the Forney 220 TIG welder comes in as one of the best options on the market in 2024. This is a well-designed machine with a ton of features for all of your TIG welding needs. It retails for just under $1500 and it’s our choice as the best TIG welder under $1500.

One of the things we find so impressive about this welder is its power output – it’s capable of operating at 220 amps both AC and DC. It’s also equipped with high-frequency start and pulse capabilities. Out of the box, you get a foot pedal included with your purchase, a ground clamp with cable, electrode holder with cable, a flowmeter with hose and a TIG torch as well. This welder can be used on steel, stainless steel, cast iron and aluminum.

The biggest drawback of this machine is the price – at almost $1500 it will be a bit much for many budgets. For an expensive welder, we think the 3-year warranty is a little less than we were expecting as well.

  • 220 amps of power.
  • High-frequency start and pulse capable.
  • Comes with extra attachments.
  • Works with steel and aluminum.
  • Only 3-year warranty.

6. Longevity Tigweld 250EX

The best under $2000

If you’re more interested in getting the best TIG welder for your shop than the price tag, the Longevity Tigweld 250EX may just be for you. This is a powerful machine that operates at 250 amps and it comes equipped with everything you need right out of the box. We think the warranty should be a bit longer considering the expense, but we’re confident any welding shop would improve with the introduction of this machine.

If price isn’t an object, then the Longevity Tigweld 250EX has to move to the front of the line. This is a machine that’s designed to provide some of the best, most reliable and flawless welds possible. It’s a commercial quality welder with few rivals able to match its power and consistency.

The first thing that jumped out at us with this Longevity welder was its awesome power – this machine draws on 250 amps and that means you will always get enough power to complete a reliable weld every time. It has built-in synergistic controls that make using it intuitive and surprisingly easy for the experienced welder. If you’re looking for a tool that comes with all of the accessories you need this is the one. It can also be used as a Stick welder and an ARC welder making it highly versatile.

One of the biggest problems with this welder is the price – at nearly $2000 it’s a major investment, making it more suitable for a shop, commercial or industrial setting rather than a machine for the home. At that price, we were also surprised that Longevity only offers a 3-year warranty on this welder. It is a bit bulky as well, so you may need some help moving it around the shop.

  • 250 amps of available power.
  • Built-in synergistic controls.
  • Numerous accessories.
  • Can use as a Stick or ARC welder.
  • Underwhelming 3-year warranty.
  • A bit on the bulky side.

7. Everlast Ultra-Arc 205

The best under $1000

If you’re not intimidated by a complicated operating panel then the Everlast Ultra-Arc 205 could be the perfect addition to your welding shop. This is a versatile machine that can be used for TIG welding, Stick welding or Plasma welding. We liked the front pressure gauge and the overcurrent circuit protection as well. If you have $1000 earmarked for a new TIG welder this is a great choice.

If your shop has a budget for a new welder in the $1000 range, then we suggest a close look at the Everlast Ultra-Arc 205. This is a nice machine in a compact package with consistent power levels that result in a near-perfect weld each time. Everlast has a reputation for reliability and that’s probably why you’ll find them playing a prominent role in a lot of welding shops.

This isn’t just a TIG welder, it works just as well as a Stick welder or Plasma tool. This 3-in-1 capability gives it an advantage and it works well no matter which type of weld you’re performing. It’s portable nature also makes it ideal for taking on different job sites, both at work and at home. There’s a front air pressure gauge for keeping track of air pressure and it has over current circuit protection. This is also a dual voltage machine, so you can switch between 120 and 240 volts as needed.

If we have one major complaint with this machine it’s that it may seem a little too busy. The front panel is packed and will take some getting used to. One other thing that prevented us from rating this welder higher was the handle – it’s a type of nylon material which will likely wear quickly with constant use making this machine more difficult to move around if the handle breaks.

  • 3-in-1 welding tool.
  • Portable.
  • Front pressure gauge and overcurrent circuit protection.
  • Switch between 120 and 240 volts.
  • Complicated operating panel.
  • Nylon handle.

If there’s one takeaway we discovered from writing these TIG welder reviews it’s that there are a ton of great products to choose from these days. We chose the Lincoln Electric LE31MP as the best overall option available because it has great features at a reasonable price, but many other welders are highly competitive and strong rivals for this Lincoln machine.

We feel the Everlast Ultra-Arc 205 deserves strong consideration as our runner up and the price isn’t that much more than the LE21MP. If you’re looking for a new TIG welder for commercial or home use any one of the products reviewed above will provide you with years of reliable service.
